TechRadium files patent infringement lawsuit against 11 companies

Mass-notification company TechRadium Inc., which in August filed a patent infringement lawsuit against micro-blogging giant Twitter, has filed infringement charges against 11 more companies.

The Sugar Land company this week filed suit in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against AtHoc Inc. (San Mateo, Calif.); BroadBlast Inc. (Delmar, N.Y.); Edulink Systems Inc. (Orange, Calif.); First Call Network Inc. (Baton Rouge, La.); GroupCast LLC (Sunset Hills, Mo.); Parlant Technologies Inc. (Provo, Utah); Reliance Communications Inc. (Santa Cruz, Calif); Saf-T-Net Inc. (Raleigh, N.C.); SWN Communications Inc. (New York City); SwiftReach Networks Inc. (Ramsey, N.J.); and Twenty-First Century Communications Inc. (Columbus, Ohio).

TechRadium claims that the companies violated three different patent laws having to do with unlicensed use and sale of its technology.

TechRadium markets its technology under the trade name IRIS, Immediate Response Information System, that allows an originator to send a single message simultaneously and instantaneously to multiple subscribers. The subscriber receives the information through any combination of devices, including telephone, cellphone, fax, wireless systems, alerts and other methods, in multiple languages.

“TechRadium has invested a lot of time and money developing our technology and we will potentially lose any reward for our efforts if companies continue the unlicensed use of our technology,” Louis Vetrano Jr., TechRadium’s general counsel, said in a statement.

Vetrano also said TechRadium was willing to license its patented technology to interested parties. “We will not stand by and allow companies to use TechRadium’s patented technology without an appropriate license. We will continue to enforce our rights. This is our patented technology and we will protect it,” he said.

Attorney W. Shawn Staples at Mostyn Law in Houston filed the infringement charges on behalf of TechRadium.
